a. You must register your domain name (i.e.
company.com). This fee is less than $25.00 for one year.
CAUTION! don't be tempted to register the name yourself with another DNS
service! You might save a few dollars, but it may create a situation
where your URL (universal resource locator) name will not actually be hosted
where you actually want it to be hosted for 30-60 days! And you will
have to reply to 2 or more emails from the original host to enable the
transfer to our hosting server. Not worth the fuss for a few
dollars.....
b. You must identify which server you wish to host your
website. Websites are nothing more than a collection of files that are
downloaded to the user's computer when he or she types your web address into
their browser's address line. All these files must reside on a server
somewhere. I strongly encourage you to use ECTISP
since they host most of my client's websites and provide excellent
service. They maintain state-of-the-art equipment and have many years
of experience with web hosting. If there is a problem with your
website, a simple phone call from me to their staff is all it takes to fix
it! No automated switchboards, secret passwords, etc. Their slogan is
"At your service" and they live by it.
c. Once you have completed the first two steps, you simply call me at
214-773-7377 and I will take care of everything else for you. You will
probably be surprised to know that I only need your billing address to
finalize the financial part of the process. No, I don't need your
credit card number; if you don't pay your bill, your website will
simply disappear! I wonder why the bigger companies haven't figured
out how that works? I wonder why they have to have your credit card
number?
d. Of course, we will have to meet to discuss the objectives for your
website, but I have some very simple worksheets that make the process short
and painless. You simply supply me with the necessary information and
I will take it from there.
When your URL is registered, you are registered as
the owner and I am registered as the technical support contact and
webmaster, but you can change any of that information at any time.
When your URL reservation expires, you will be the one who is
notified. At that time, you must renew the registration or your
website will no longer be functional. In other words, if we go away or
you become unhappy with our service, you have the full power to move your
website to another server.
We use Microsoft Frontpage for all our websites
and our servers are compatible with Microsoft Frontpage extensions.
You would only need to purchase that program (around $200) and you would be
able to access everything yourself. Obviously, we could no longer be
responsible for your website content since you and your staff would have
full access to the files stored on the site server. We strongly
discourage this practice unless you are very familiar with the process since
it is very complicated. It is very easy to
corrupt a website if you don't know what you are doing......
It is not very expensive and relatively simple to
copyright your website. You can click here
to go to a website where this can be done. (Note: we provide this link
only as an example of website copyrighting and do not endorse this site.)
Please contact me at 214-773-7377 or email
me for specific information. This process will take approximately
30-45 days but it is relatively straight-forward and simple.
Certainly! Some of our clients publish
"Employee of the Month" type pictures, employee vacation pictures,
etc. on a regular basis. You only need to email them to us, if they
are digital. If they are prints, mail them to us and we will scan them
for publication on your website.
