Dell computers continue to be one of the most reliable and least expensive
computers on the market. Although their tech support can sometimes be less
than perfect, the hardware is top of the line and should work well for an
extended period of time. If you are considering upgrading your current PC,
click here for assistance. If you decide to purchase a Dell, please make a
note of the following important points:
The specials offered on the Dell specials website link are only available if you order on line AND you specify the
computer for home use. Click the Dell logo at the bottom of this
page to view their current on line specials. If you need to contact
them by phone, click
here.
When configuring your PC order on line, be VERY careful about changing any
of the default specifications for the current special offer. Some
changes that appear insignificant can rapidly increase your price. If
you aren't careful, your $499 system will quickly become a $900 system.
For a desktop system (as pictured above), the normal shipping cost is just
under $100 and the tax is around $60.
Note that Dell is no longer
including a 3.5" floppy disk drive with their standard PC's!
It's an upgrade (about $20) if you really need one. If you don't
order one at the time you place your initial order, you will not be able to
install an internal floppy drive in the future unless you special order the
mounting hardware from Dell.
If you see a special offer that interests you, be aware that it
may be
offered for only a few days before it is changed. Most special offers
include some combination of the following free components or services: free
shipping, upgrade to larger hard disk drive, memory upgrade, recordable cd
drive in second bay, free monitor, etc. Watch for the special that
best meets your needs. The special offer that is available most of the
time is pictured at the top left of this page. It includes a Pentium
IV processor, 40gig hard drive, 128mb memory, single CD Rom drive, 17" CRT
monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. One of the more attractive offers you will find
includes a free 15" flat panel LCD monitor for under $500. The monitor
(pictured below) lists for $399 by itself! (Click on the image below
to see the details on the Dell website). This special usually appears
only once every 4 or 5 weeks and usually lasts for only a few days. If
you would like me to notify you when this special is offered next, click
here (no text message is necessary if you leave the "Subject" line as it
appears in your email). If you need more information about monitors,

You will be required to set up a new account, but it only takes a few
minutes to enter your shipping information and credit card numbers.
Your rebate form must be downloaded from the Dell
website. Click the "Rebate
Form" link at the bottom to
access that site.
Your new Windows XP computer will need to have
several Microsoft
Critical Updatesdownloaded and
installed to make your PC function properly and protect you from hackers.
Important: When your new computer arrives, you
will probably need to copy lots of information from your old computer to the new
one. Most of us have lots of documents, spreadsheets, emails, addresses
and other personal information we don't want to loose. I can move almost EVERYTHING to your new computer so you will not loose anything and this can
usually be done in less than an hour in my shop. This can also be done in
your office or home, but it will take a little longer to complete. There are also several Microsoft
Critical Updates that must be downloaded and installed on your new
computer. This can be done is about an hour using the T1 line in my
office, but it will take 3-4 hours on a dial-up connection. If you
would like to schedule an appointment or you need any help ordering your new
Dell computer, or if you would like me to place the order for you, send me an email
or contact me at the number listed below.
