Can't open or view attachments in Outlook Express?
There are many things that can prevent you from opening Outlook Express attachments, but one of the most common is a default security setting in Outlook Express. By default, OE is set to not allow any attachments to be saved or opened on your computer that could potentially be a virus. Many viruses find their way onto computers disguised as a harmless image, a Microsoft Word document, etc., so you have to be careful about changing this setting! If you don't have a good virus protection program running that is updated at least weekly, then you should click here to return to the main page and not continue any further!
To prevent damage to your computer caused by a virus, you MUST be running a good virus protection program, its virus database MUST be updated regularly, it MUST be set to scan all emails and you MUST install all Microsoft critical updates as soon as they are available! If you are sure have good virus protection and want to change the default OE security setting, here is how it's done:
Open Outlook Express and click on "Tools", then on "Options"
Then click on the tab labeled "Security".
Then find the checkbox followed by this message: "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Remove the checkmark from this box and you are finished!
